Start your planning with the two "must sees" on any trip to Bodrum - the Masoleum site and the Castle of St. Peter. From there add on any number of extra sidetrips to fill your day with us! Remember our tours are private and unique every time, so you choose how you want to experience Bodrum...
Halicarnassos Mausoleum is Bodrum's oldest and most significant antiquity, given it's status as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Mausoleum was built by Artemisia II as a tomb for, and in honour of, her husband King Mausolos. Today we associate most such burial buildings as "mausoleums." The original structure stood at over 50 commanding metres in height, an amazing feat for the day! Many reliefs from the Mausoleum, including frescos, were brought to the British Museum in London in 1846.
The Castle of St. Peter is the most prominent feature of the Bodrum landscape- an impressive towering structure dating back to the medieval knights of St. John. Construction of the castle began in the 1400s, and the Knights made use of materials from the tomb of King Mausolus. Interestingly, the some stones taken from the site can be identified by your tour guide.
Today the Castle is home to the Underwater Museum, various exhibits include an ancient shipwreck and various other antiquities found in the area. This musuem is the largest dedicated to underwater archaeology in the world and many of the findings displayed here have been reported in National Geographic magazine and the Discovery channel among other media outlets.
Many of our guests enjoy discovering the Turkish countryside as part of their Bodrum day. See a true slice of Turkish life by asking your tour guide to drive you into the neighboring hills of the Bodrum penisula. There you can see first hand the traditional way of life that has been gracing these areas for centuries - stroll into a real Turkish tea house, a country mosque, see men farming and ladies weaving handicrafts and rugs....
